“Duplicity” by Marybeth Richards

I am alive,

To feel death;

But I move

and I–

tick and twitch and scratch and bleed

and I

scream even though my throat is raw

and my voice is lost and I,

and I–

cry,

blood and tar and salt and,

dirty rain water

reflect the sun’s luminous warmth,

And I–

I am not dead.

——

I am not dead

And I–

reflect the sun’s luminous warmth,

dirty rain water

blood and tar and salt and,

cry,

And I–

And my voice is lost and I,

scream even though my throat is raw

and I

tick and twitch and scratch and bleed

And I–

But I move

To feel death;

I am alive.
